About Holy Cross

Founded in 1987 and dedicated in 1991, Holy Cross is a member of the Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ. Our worship is a blend of modern and contemporary style, and we welcome visitors.

What we Believe

• We believe in the Holy Trinity; Father, Son and Holy Spirit and use of these, their proper names. (Matt. 28:18-20, John 20:21-23, Acts 1:4-5)
• As Luther says in his Small Catechism; I believe that I cannot by my own reason or strength believe in Jesus Christ, my Lord, or come to Him; but the Holy Spirit has called me by the Gospel, enlightened me with His gifts, sanctified and kept me in the true faith. In the same way He calls, gathers, enlightens, and sanctifies the whole Christian church on earth, and keeps it with Jesus Christ in the one true faith. In this Christian church He daily and richly forgives all my sins and the sins of all believers. On the Last Day He will raise me and all the dead, and give eternal life to me and all believers in Christ. (Eph. 2:8-9, Rom. 3:9-25, Jonah 2:9)
• To have faith is to have a personal, loving relationship with the Jesus Christ who is fully God. (Matt. 22:35-40, 1 John 3:16-18)
• The Bible, along with Christ, is the God-breathed Word of God. It is inspired and without error in what it teaches. We yield our reason to God’s Word. It is through God’s Word that we encounter the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit convicts, enlightens and empowers all Christians. (2 Tim. 3:14-17, 1 Cor. 2:12-13)
• Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. He is fully God and fully human. Only as God can Jesus be a Savior for us. Only as human can He suffer and die in our place. (John 14:6, 1 Tim. 2:5-6, John 3:16-17)
• God alone is worthy of our worship, our praise, and our allegiance. It is through Christ that we dare approach God. Worshipping anything else is idolatry. (1 Pet. 5:6-7, James 4:10)
• Knowing that God first loved us and that our salvation is assured we are free to live out our calling as servants, serving God’s creation and God’s people. (Matt. 20:25-28, Matt. 25:31-40, Matt. 5:16)
• Anticipating eternal life and glory with Christ in heaven, we live our life on this earth as his Holy Church. The church is where the Spiritual Kingdom encounters the Earthly Kingdom. (Matt. 6:19-21, Col. 3:1-2, Rom. 12:1-2)
• We agree on all things effecting our salvation. We may disagree and argue about other matters, but our Faith is in Christ. (1 John 4:1-6, Rom. 14:13-21)
• God, through the Holy Spirit, has empowered each of us with gifts and has called each of us to employ these gifts in service to God and neighbor, all to God’s Glory. (John 15:16-17, Gal. 5:6, Matt. 5:16)
• As God calls each one of us to service, so does God call this congregation to serve Him and his creation. We trust the Holy Spirit to guide Holy Cross Lutheran Church in our calling. (Matt. 16:18, 1 Pet. 2:4-5)
• God created us male and female and both together reflect the image and nature of God. The Bible is clear that God’s will is that human sexual expression and fulfillment take place only within the boundaries of marriage between one man and one woman. (Gen. 2:18-25, Matt. 19:4-6, Mark 10:2-9)
• We believe that all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Gen. 25:22-26, Prov. 24:11-12, Jer. 1:4-5, John 1: 3-4, Gal. 1:15)

About Pastor Jay Rossman

Pastor Jay has been a member of Holy Cross for over 20 years and has served as Deacon, adult Bible study leader, Youth Peer Ministry instructor, Confirmation teacher, council and committee member, worship leader and preacher, and drummer and guitar player.  He has a Master of Arts degree from Wartburg Theological Seminary and a Master of Arts in Communication from the University of Dubuque.  Jay has worked as a Director of Youth Ministries at another Aberdeen congregation and has over 25 years of business management and teaching experience.
